8. TIRO ry’s overall sale at Solu 26 – 28 August

Did you get accepted to study engineering as a degree student at TAMK, one of the finest schools in Finland? Fantastic, then this message concerns especially you!

Have you wondered about the strange creatures, who have chosen to wear overalls of all things possible, wandering around Tampere? You have met the rare and exquisite species known as a student (Discipulus sapiens).

When on it’s way to a student gathering or a party the student puts on it’s overalls so it can evade the judgementful looks from people while crawling on all fours through the tramline worksites on Hämeenkatu. Afterall, a student is meant to relax sometimes during tiring studies. Going to student gatherings and parties the student also acquires patches that can be sewn to the overalls as badges of honor.

Engineering Students of Tampere TIRO sells these invisibility cloaks, more commonly known as student overalls, on the ground floor of Solu (L-building of the Kauppi campus) from 26th to the 28th of August from 10 am – 2 pm each day. When you join the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland you can get the overalls for a discounted price of 30 €. Joining is not mandatory, but the membership has added benefits such as insurances, advisement on employment and much more. Non-members can buy the overalls for the price fo 50 €.

More information about the overalls, their uses and other benefits can be gotten from your very own tutors.

9. Tolu? What’s that?

As fall approaches, the various student clubs are waking up from their summer slumber. Tolu is no different. If you’re new and have never heard of us (or aren’t but weren’t paying attention before), Tolu stands for Tampereen orastavat lihakset urheiluseura. Is that any clearer? Probably not. Loosely translated, it means the Burgeoning Muscles of Tampere Sports Club.

Our goal is to provide various athletic opportunities for the students of TAMK. We have a weekly sports shift on Tuesdays from 17:00 – 19:00 (5PM – 7PM for the ‘murcans) where we try a different team sport each week. People of all skill levels are welcome, just bring some indoor sports shoes. We also organize things like bowling nights, and the great kick-off to the year: Tolumppialaiset (Tolumpics). You can read more about that below. So if you’re interested in getting yourself moving and meeting new people, find us on Facebook or Instagram, or even just ask about us at the student union office.

10. Tolumppialaiset 2019

Tolumppialaiset (The Tolumpics) is a yearly event in which people get together in teams and compete to win prizes by going to checkpoints and participating in athletic challenges. If you’re new to the school and/or the country, this is a fun way to get together and get to know your fellow students. You don’t have to be good at sports, you just have to show up and give it a try!

Tickets for the Tolumpics cost 3€ per person, or 5€ if you want to buy a joint ticket that gets you into Tamko’s Alkumetri party as well. To be clear, all of Tolu’s events are alcohol free, but the Tamko afterparty is unlikely to be. So if you think you’ll feel guilty for going to Alkumetri, come join us and pre-burn off some of those calories. Tickets are available through our online store in the Facebook event, or at the student union office.

For more info check our Facebook event.
